Founder Member of The London Run - Maire Cooper
It is with regret that we learnt of the passing of Maire Cooper who, along with Phyllis Wallbank was an original founder member of the London Run back in 1984.
From that first trip to the Strand with Phyllis, they established additional distribution points and Maire continued to travel to London every Monday for many years. It was important to her to bring not just food, but friendship, because she realised that acceptance is what everybody needs, especially for people who feel invisible and disregarded.
Maire was awarded the MBE for her services to the homeless and accepted it on behalf of all the London Runners.
With the memories of many of the people she had befriended intact, Maire Cooper lived until the age of 96, – rest in peace.
